Yucca’s last update….

It was only just over a month ago that these lovely pictures were made of Yucca being out again with her donkey friends Hebe and Daphne and of course Larry!

It seemed that we managed to pull her through as she was staying out of the stable day & night again. We didn’t need to hoist her up anymore. Even when she had a lie down she could get up, sometimes with a little manual help, but she managed!

Until that day…again…a few weeks ago that she could not get up by herself and we had to help her get into the stable to hoist her up.

From that moment she was bound to the stable again, being hoisted up every morning. She still enjoyed her food and all the love and attention she got, but we could see that she didn’t improve anymore like she did before…

So therefore, we took the very hard decision – as none of us wanted to part with this beautiful soul yet – to humanely euthanise her….

But not before she had a last stroll with her friends around the garden, eating anything in there she wanted and getting her last always much appreciated brush…

Yucca, you will be missed & never be forgotten!!! Enjoy yourself in donkey heaven!!!

Horse on Fodele Beach! Άλογο στην παραλία Φόδελε!

Following a report from a concerned Greek lady, we searched the beach of Fodele asking about a horse which had allegedly been left in the sun without any care. Not having found the horse, or anyone who knew about it, we started to walk back to the car… it was then that we saw two children playing and decided as a last attempt to ask them too. We were in luck… and so was the horse! The children not only knew about the horse but they had also been caring for it by taking buckets of water and food to it! Apparently, its owners came and took it but we left our contact details in case it should turn up again!

Thank you for the support! Ευχαριστούμε για την υποστήριξη!

Our Equine Outreach Team would like to…

* apologise for the delay in posts about the April visit 🙂

* and thank everyone who helped, more than they can ever imagine!

Daphne @ Cretan Malia Park hotel

As we had more volunteers available this time, we could take Daphne down to the Cretan Malia Park Hotel and we could offer some children games while we were there on our regular awareness raising event.

Children could have a ride on Daphne!

When Daphne was waiting outside the entrance and a taxi pulled up to collect some guests from the hotel there was a funny situation as years & years ago transport was only done by donkey…

As the taxi had more luggage space he won…

leaving Daphne behind and confused 😉

Some other volunteers came to help to offer some games to the little guests of the hotel. They had been very creative!

One game showed pictures of donkey related goods with a question mark as to what they are used for….

with the answer on the other side 🙂

Children could also color a donkey, connect the dots or make a

self created donkey puzzle 🙂

Kids and parents happy and we have some new ideas for upcoming events!!!

We would like to thank all volunteers for their help and Cretan Malia Park Hotel for their support & hospitality!

What about Hebe, Daphne & Larry???

A good question!!!

They are doing OK !!! 🙂

They have passed a cold winter, but now that the sun is here, the summer is almost there, so the worst is over!! 🙂

As said before Hebe comes regularly to have a look in the stable to see how Yucca is doing or does she have other motives???

Yes she does! She is trying to steal Yucca’s dinner! Like if she is ever being forgotten when it is dinner time!!!

And Larry??

He follows where ever Hebe goes (as you might be lucky to get some extra dinner too!) and is happy that Easter has passed & he survived it again! 😉

He is also wondering when these people are coming again to take his coat off as he is getting hotter every day!! 🙂

Soon Larry, soon! Just like those people clipping your hooves and those of Hebe & Daphne.  Their teeth will get checked as well!

More about that visit later….
