Marco aka BeachBoy aka broken-leg-dog

Marco is pretty famous in Malia, among citizens and tourists. He was spotted a couple of weeks ago on the beach with a broken leg. Some very caring tourist called a vet who gave him a painkilling injection, which made Marco feeling better, so he wandered off from the place  he was found at first. He showed up at a Dolphin Beach Bar and the owners agreed keeping him for a while till one of our foster homes became available again.

Above you see Marco before his operation and below how he is doing now!

Thanks to all people that donated money, the Dolphin Beach Bar staff for keeping a good eye on & taking care of him while staying there and all CAWG volunteers involved helping him going to the vet,  caring for him after recovering from surgery and now rehabilitating to get 100% well!!! Without you guys Marco would still have been wondering at the beach….

The last words come from Marco:

  1. Hi Jennie and thank you for your comment!
As an NGO which consists of volunteers who have lived here for a long time or who are Greek, we would just like to inform you that many Greek citizens also report cruelty and are increasingly trying to help animals they find. However, this is not always easy as NGO facilities available are limited and also, charities, volunteering and other such ideas are very new to the Greek culture. Many times we also find that although someone may feel very sorry for an animal, they do not accept euthanasia and as a vet bill cannot be afforded, the animal of course is left. Thank you once again for sharing and we hope that you also had many nice experiences during your holiday!

  2. Why does it not suprise me that it was a tourist and not a Greek person who took this dog to the vet. How long would they watch his suffering? But thankfully someone was kind enough to help. I am sorry to any Greek people who do have some compassion, but after my short visit I am dishartened by the cruelty in Crete
