Ο Μάρλεϋ γίνεται Sensei! Marley becomes Sensei!

Ο Μάρλεϋ επισκέφθηκε πρόσφατα την επίδειξη πολεμικών τεχνών της http://www.polemikes-tehnes.gr για να δει τις νέες γενιές που διδάσκονται πειθαρχία, ηθικά μηνύματα και αθλητισμό! ”Χαιρόμαστε να βλέπουμε τέτοιες πρωτοβουλίες και ακόμα περισσότερο χάρηκα όταν είδα ότι όλα τα φυλλάδια μας είχαν φύγει!” είπε ο Sensei Mάρλεϋ.

Marley recently attended the Martial Arts show by http://www.polemikes-tehnes.gr to watch new generations taught discipline, moral messages and sports! ”We like to see such initiatives and I was even happier to see that all our leaflets had been taken!” said Sensei Marley.

Ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ στους διοργανωτές, τις σχολές και όλους τους νέους που συμμετείχαν!

Για να προλάβουμε εικόνες όπως την παρακάτω δημιουργήσαμε το Πρόγραμμα Χρηματοδοτούμενων Στειρώσεων και Υπεύθυνης Ιδιοκτησίας!

In order to avoid pictures like the one below, we created the Subsidised Neutering Project and Responsible Pet Ownership!

Έχουμε ήδη βοηθήσει να στειρωθούν και να τσιπαριστούν 586 σκυλιά! Σκοπός μας δεν είναι να περάσουν όλα τα σκυλιά από το πρόγραμμα μας αλλά να αναπτυχθεί αίσθημα ευθύνης και να υπάρξει κατανόηση της θετικότητας της στείρωσης!

We have already helped neuter and microchip 586 dogs!

Our goal is not for all dogs to go through our project but for a sense of responsibility to evolve and understanding of the benefits of neutering!

Ας βοηθήσουμε να έρθει η μέρα εκείνη που δεν θα υπάρχουν αβοήθητα πλασματάκια στους δρόμους…

Let’s help to bring that day when there are no helpless animals on the roads…

Τι είναι η Ανθρωπιστική Διαπαιδαγώγηση; What is Humane Education?

Ανθρωπιστική Διαπαιδαγώγηση είναι η διδαχή της δικαιοσύνης, του σεβασμού και της συμπόνοιας προς κάθε είδος ζωής, ανθρώπων, ζώων και του περιβάλλοντος.

Humane Education is the teaching of justice, respect and compassion for all life, including humans, animals and the environment. (ENG below)

Τον τελευταίο καιρό υπάρχει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον για την ανθρωπιστική διαπαιδαγώγηση και λαμβάνουμε email από την Ελλάδα αλλά και το εξωτερικό για παροχή πληροφοριών και συμβουλών, κάτι το οποίο δείχνει μια κοινωνική αλλαγή που απ’ότι φαίνεται, θα επισπευθεί! Πολύ θετικά νέα θα έλεγα!

Εσύ το ήξερες ότι…

 

Η μεγαλύτερη γάτα που καταγράφηκε επίσημα είχε βάρος 21,2 κιλά και η μικρότερη 1,36 κιλά!

Και εγώ φωνάζω την δικία μου «χοντρούλα» και είναι μόλις 4,2 κιλά….

Τώρα καταλαβαίνω πόσο άδικη είμαι μαζί της…..

Ο Δήμος Χερσονήσου εν δράση!

Municipality of  Hersonisos soon starting CNR of stray dogs as part of a long term plan to run humane education, raise awareness of dog owners, actively engage in law enforcement and create a temporary shelter!

Είμαστε στην ευχάριστη θέση να σας ανακοινώσουμε  ότι σύντομα ο Δήμος Χερσονήσου θα υπογράψει σύμβαση με κτηνίατρο της περιοχής για την περισυλλογή, στείρωση και επανατοποθέτηση των αδέσποτων σκύλων!

Η κίνηση αυτή είναι μόνο η αρχή ενός προγράμματος που σκοπό έχει να επεκταθεί σε ενημερώσεις ιδιοκτητών, εφαρμογή του νόμου, σχολικές παρουσιάσεις και δημιουργία κυνοκομείου.

Θα θέλαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε όσους βοήθησαν ώστε να γίνει εφικτό το πρόγραμμα αυτό και να ζητήσουμε από όλους τους ιδιοκτήτες ζώων την απαιτούμενη υπευθυνότητα (περίπατος μόνο με λουρί, στείρωση και μικροτσιπ, καθαρισμός περιττωμάτων κτλ).

Εσύ το ήξερες ότι…

Ο σκύλος μπορεί να μάθει να αντιλαμβάνεται απο 60 έως 100 λέξεις!!!

Εγώ όταν προσπάθησα να μάθω ρώσικα, κατάφερα να μάθω λιγότερες…..

Marley @ Cretan Malia Park Hotel!

Volunteers had fun, guests were pleasantly surprised and valuable fundraising will help our work!

Was Sasa poisoned?! I don’t think so…

In the run up to the Olympics of Athens in 2004, most media, foreign and Greek, were portraying the Greek officials as monsters who were preparing to exterminate all the stray animals…

This of course did not happen, otherwise, chubby old Sasa would no longer be with us. I befriended her in 2003 in Heraklion center. A tall, lanky and playful girl full of joy! She disappeared from the streets before the Games came to town but soon after, reappeared happy, healthy and with no signs of having been poisoned!

This is Sasa now, so many years later, sitting outside the Municipal Building where I attend meetings regarding the shelter so that even more dogs can be neutered, vaccinated and if not adopted, released again.

She is overweight because she gets fed by everyone and there is also a lady in town who cares for her and her other furry friend (as well as cats) and invites them into the building to sleep on cold winter nights!

So if you see Sasa wobbling around town, be assured that they have been, and still are, doing the best they can for the strays!

A volunteer’s ‘tail’… Part 3/3

One morning a few weeks later, I saw Little Kitten in a tree in the distance, called to her and saw her jump down.  And then…no Little Kitten. We called and called, searched the property and still could not find her, so we headed back home.  Just then we saw something we will never forget:  the tiny grey tabby racing across a neighboring field with a gang of five – count ‘em, five – large and eager toms in very hot pursuit. Followed by her entourage, Little Kitten made a bee-line towards us and when she came near me I scooped her up.  As I fed her and swatted at the very persistent males to keep them at bay, my husband walked all the way home, put the crate in the car and drove all the way back to the hotel.  I practically tossed Little Kitten in the crate in the back seat and off we went to the vet.

Today, now-fixed Little Kitten rules the all-male colony at the hotel. She is very lucky to have lush hunting grounds, hardly any car traffic and a hotel that cares.  And the owner of the hotel has a great mouser living on his property.  It sounds trite, but this is another TNR “win-win:”: a cat who has a potentially healthy and safe future and fewer future, suffering cats for the neighborhood.

And now for that female calico kit further down the street….
